Conventional wisdom predicted Hillary Clinton would win the White House in 2016. Conventional wisdom predicted President Trump’s supposed “collusion” with the Russians would end his presidency before the end of 2017. Now, conventional wisdom predicts that pro-Trump congressional republicans will be slaughtered by democrats in the 2018 mid-term elections.
These are just a few examples of conventional wisdom that establishment republicans (Never Trump) and liberal democrats affirm daily. Despite these falsehoods, Trump haters find solace in the President’s poor polling numbers, fake news, and echo-chamber chatter. Recent democrat victories in Virginia and Alabama, coupled with the passage of a “tax cut for the wealthy” drives a conventional wisdom that Trump is mortally wounded and losing the support of his voters.
I believe conventional wisdom will be proven wrong again. Instead of conventional wisdom predicting Trump voters turning, I predict they will become more vocal and visible in the 2018 election cycle. In other words, a resurgence.
Here’s my unconventional wisdom.
The one thing that I will give to the republican establishment, Democratic Party and liberal media is their intensive efforts to ostracize Trump voters. It’s impressive, but all in vain. In a nutshell, when liberals attack Trump, calling him Hitler and racist, they’re really directing their attacks toward his voters. The purpose is to shame them, wedge them and suppress them from publicly supporting President Trump.
But they have failed. Americans who voted for Trump have been rewarded for resisting conventional wisdom. President Trump’s America First agenda is winning, and the American people can see it in a quantifiable way: Stock market hitting record highs, highest GDP in nearly two decades, court appointments, deregulation, defunding United Nations, relocating embassy to Jerusalem, low unemployment, and now the passage of the largest tax reform package in over 30 years.
Utah U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch in a White House press conference last month expressed what many Trump voters have been thinking and now ready to espouse more openly, "This is just the beginning," Hatch said. "You stop and think about it, this president hasn't even been in office for a year. Look at all the things he's been able to get done by sheer will in many ways. He continued, “We're going to keep fighting and we're going to make this the greatest presidency that we've seen not only in a generation, but maybe ever," Hatch said.
What Trump’s enemies and the Washington pundits are overlooking is the fact that Trump’s victories have bolstered voter confidence that hasn’t been discovered in a poll or witnessed on social media - yet. Right now, it’s intuitive, palpable and it’s steadily manifesting.
Thanks to President Trump and a Republican-led Congress, Trump’s voters are not just emboldened and feeling empowered, but energized unlike ever before.
Once Middle-Class Americans begin to see more of their money in their paychecks and more businesses hiring around them, then those who supported conventional wisdom will have a lot of explaining to do as they head into the 2018 elections.
As we ramp up to the mid-term elections, we will see President Trump’s approval numbers rise, which will be driven by the resurgence of his voters who openly display their support for his pro-America agenda.
This public resurgence of Trump voters will not only underscore the president’s transformation of GOP in 2018, but rally a nation to champion President Trump’s America First manifesto in the next presidential election.
